How does Ibogaine Treatment work?
Ibogaine is a psychoactive substance which comes from a West African plant, Tabernanthe Iboga. Scientists have measured how it affects the brain and discovered that Ibogaine is very effective in treating opioid addiction by cutting off withdrawals upon first treatment. It is also very effective for other drug addictions like alcohol and stimulants. They have learned that it works by interrupting the pattern of addiction in the brain.
Drugs and other substances interact with the brain’s receptors and continued use of these substances make those receptors hungry for more. Ibogaine takes that hunger away by taking receptors back to their pre-substance abuse state. Called an “addiction interrupter,” Ibogaine simply interrupts the chemical addiction, thus removing withdrawal and craving symptoms.
Immediately after receiving a dose of Ibogaine, cravings are significantly reduced or eliminated. A person will experience a psychedelic state of mind for about 12 hours. During that time, they will gain insight into the underlying cause of the addiction and reach a point of clarity and tranquility, allowing them to escape the cycle of obsession over their addiction. Post Ibogaine treatment, a person will not experience cravings or withdrawal symptoms. In general, the person will feel euphoric and energized for a few days while the body begins to relax into it’s pre-addicted state. The neurotransmitters in the brain will stabilize and the person will feel ready to start living again.
