Our wellness program is centered around the belief that the mind/body connection is essential to the healing process. Our facility offers a daily yoga practice which is available to all clients at any level of their recovery protocol. Yoga is a spiritual and ascetic discipline that works with breath control, meditation, and specific bodily postures, and is widely practiced for health and relaxation.
The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root Yuj, meaning “to join”. It aims to achieve a perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man & Nature. Yoga in substance abuse treatment programs has been shown to help prevent relapse, reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and becomes a healthy outlet to cope with triggers. Yoga practices not only help the mind heal from the wear and tear of addiction and trauma, they also activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for helping our body relax and recover from stress. Yoga movement will activate the “reset and digest” response in the body which promotes detoxification. A person utilizing breathwork and meditation along with yogic exercise will experience reduced levels of stress and bodywide inflammation. This practice is extremely beneficial for the heart and maintaining a healthy blood pressure and body weight. Yoga can also help regulate sleep patterns and help ease joint and muscle pain. The psychological and physiological benefits that yoga can bring are numerous and integral to a healthy and balanced recovery program
